Like most things in life, there is no magic pill.
The same applies to car care and ceramic coatings specifically.
You may have heard from a dealership or even a local detailer about them offering a “lifetime” coating for your car.
”Wow”, you say. “That’s amazing and I don’t have to ever worry about my car’s exterior while I own it?”
Unfortunately that would be incorrect. Everything has a lifespan including ceramic coatings, the paint on your car, and the car itself!
While there are coatings that have “long-term” protection, typically rated up to around 7 - 9 years; it all depends on how you maintain that coating!
Even a coating rated for 7 seven years can fail within 1 - 2 years if it is never washed, washed improperly, or not decontaminated at least once a year.
So how does anyone offer a “lifetime” coating?
They sell you a “lifetime maintenance” on the coating!
A company will offer to maintain the coating for the lifetime that you own the vehicle under certain conditions that the vehicle is maintained on a set schedule. If the coating fails at any point while being properly maintained, they will simply reapply the coating making it seem like it lasts forever!
At the end of the day, there is no lifetime protection for your vehicle. It all comes down to how you maintain and protect it.
Whether you choose a wax, sealant, or coating - routine maintenance is the best protection!
