Fall is finally upon us, but with that comes lots of mess from the trees!
While in the springtime we have to deal with pollen, during the fall comes the issue of tree sap.
Like most contamination on cars, removing it ASAP is always the best option. Avoiding parking under or near trees during this time of year is also advised.
For the most part, if tended to quickly though, tree sap can easily be removed.
Here’s a few options:
Wash - A simple wash with warm water will typically remove most forms of tree sap, especially if done in a timely manner.
Tar/Bug Removers - Most tar removers have a chemical that can easily break down tree sap as well. This is helpful on those larger blobs of stubborn tree sap. Let the product soak and breakdown the sap for the directed amount of time and gently wipe away - avoid any aggressive rubbing.
Mechanical Removal - The last resort for extremely stubborn tree sap is to physically remove it with a razor blade. This can be done safely on glass for the most part, but extreme caution should be used on any paint and left to a professional detailer.
In the vast majority of cases, washing and tar removers will remove 99% of tree sap issues.
As stated earlier, the more you maintain and protect your vehicle with waxes, sealants, and coatings the easier it will be to remove any contamination from your car.
